Step 1: Complete Your Application

If you have been notified that you are being considered for student intern employment, please complete the required steps below within 10 business days. An official offer of employment cannot be processed until all required documentation has been received and verification of eligibility has been completed. To avoid delays, please fax or scan and email any requested materials as soon as possible. The hire process may be cancelled if a response is not received. Please note that the typical intern hire process can range from 4 to 6 weeks.

1. Complete, sign, and submit the Pre-Employment Background Review form to Security:

Information regarding the submittal of your Pre-Employment Background Review (PEBR) form:

Please expect a generic email from mft@sandia.gov. This email will provide you with a username, password, and link to access the electronic inbox where you will finish creating your account.

Once your account has been created, you will have access to view and send us the PEBR form securely by completing each of the following steps:

  1. Review PEBR instructions (1st page of the PEBR form).
  2. Complete the PEBR.
  3. Ensure you have signed all areas indicated (by hand or electronically). If you use an electronic signature, it must be printable and reproducible.
  4. Upload the PEBR to your computer.
  5. In the RMFT tool, create a “New” package.
  6. Enter snl:SIPPEBR in the “To” section.

NOTE: You must manually enter snl:SIPPEBR in the “To” address bar. DO NOT simply click “Reply” or send the PEBR to student hiring. DELAYS WILL OCCUR IF NOT SUBMITTED CORRECTLY.

  1. Upload the completed PEBR by clicking the “Add” button.
  2. Click the “Send” button to complete your submittal of the PEBR.

If you have not received an e-mail within 24 hours or for technical assistance with the RMFT electronic inbox, please contact your Student Intern Programs representative.

Forms are to be completed and submitted electronically, through the RMFT tool. You must sign all required pages (by hand or electronically). If you use an electronic signature, it must be printable and reproducible.

As a national laboratory funded by a U.S. government agency, we are subject to federal laws regarding illegal drug use. Marijuana use, including for medicinal purposes, is a violation of federal law, even in places where it does not violate state law. Illegal use of a controlled substance within the last 12 months will automatically disqualify candidates from consideration for employment or for a Department of Energy security clearance.

2. Complete, Sign, and submit the following documents to Student Intern Programs:

Forms may be completed and submitted electronically or completed legibly in black ink.You must sign all pages where signature is required (by hand or electronically). If you use an electronic signature, it must be printable and reproducible. Please submit the below forms using the options noted below:

  • Student Intern Programs Information Request (PDF, 197 KB)
  • COI Applicant Questionnaire (PDF, 76 KB) If applicable, this form is required if you have been employed by the military or the federal government in the past.
  • Student Intern Relocation Benefit Request (PDF, 198 KB) If applicable, you may be eligible to receive relocation benefits from Sandia if your academic/school address and permanent address are both located greater than 50 miles from the Sandia work site location. If you would like to apply for relocation benefits, please complete, sign, and return this form.

3. Submit Transcripts & Schedule of Classes to Student Intern Programs:

Please submit the below documents using the options noted below:

Transcript Request

Undergraduate and graduate students must request official transcripts from their current schools verifying full-time student status. Official transcripts from any previously attended colleges where a relevant degree(s) was awarded must also be requested. Current high school students must request an official high school transcript.

If you are applying for a summer internship position, a transcript verifying completion of the fall term prior to the internship will be required for compensation purposes. If the fall term is still in progress, wait to submit official transcripts until grades are posted, otherwise you will be asked to resubmit an official transcript. In the meantime, please send your unofficial transcript to progress with the hiring process.

NOTE: To expedite the hiring process, fax or scan and e-mail unofficial transcripts immediately to one of the return addresses below.

Official electronic transcripts sent directly from the school(s) by email are preferred. Official transcripts received at Sandia in sealed envelopes directly from the school(s) are also acceptable.

Schedule of Classes Submission

If your transcript does not reflect your current in-progress coursework, submit a class schedule reflecting the number of units you are currently taking.

If you are applying for a summer internship position and have not yet registered for the spring term before the internship, please follow up with a class schedule once you are registered.
