Air

Three airlines offer direct service to the Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY) via international and domestic connecting routes in Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and directly from Phoenix (PHX). The Monterey Peninsula Airport is served by American Eagle, America West, and United Express.

Alternatively, one can fly into San Francisco (SFO) or San Jose (SJC). Monterey/Salinas Airbus at (831) 373-7777 provides inexpensive shuttles every 90 minutes, or rental car agencies are available.

Train

Amtrak's Coast Starlight train stops in the nearby town of Salinas each day on its route between Seattle, Washington, and Los Angeles, California. Details are available at (800) USA-RAIL. There are packages for every budget and it's a great way to see the Central Coast. Free bus service is provided from Salinas to downtown Monterey (a 30-minute ride), or you can connect with Greyhound bus, or use the usual rental car agencies.

Automobile

There are two main highways into Monterey: Highways 1 and Highway 101 connect San Francisco with Los Angeles. Highway 1 connects along the Pacific coastline providing magnificent views, and Highway 101 connects down the valley corridor. Easy freeway access is also available from the three Bay Area airports.

From the North:
Take HWY 101 south to HWY 156. West to HWY 1 South. Exit at Pacific Grove/Del Monte Avenue. Continue down Del Monte Avenue for 1.5 miles, staying in the left lane. Stay to the left at the fork, following signs to downtown (do not go through the tunnel). The convention center and hotel is 2 blocks ahead on the right side in Portola Plaza (Right turn off Del Monte Blvd.).

From the South, traveling on Highway 101:
Exit at Monterey Peninsula which will bring you to HWY 68. Travel on HWY 68 to HWY 1 South. Take the first Monterey exit. Turn right at the first light (Camino Aguajito) and continue until it ends. Turn left on Del Monte Avenue and stay to the left at the fork following signs to downtown (do not go through the tunnel). The convention center and hotel is 2 blocks ahead on the right side in Portola Plaza (Right turn off Del Monte Blvd.).
