Sandia has received funding in partnership with other national labs, the
University of Southern California, and Second Sight Co. in the development of a
retinal prosthesis microsystem that can provide meaningful sight to patients
with macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa. This project has been funded
for the next three years starting in October 2001.
Cochlear Prosthesis Testbed
Integration

Sandia has partnered with the Wireless Integrated Microsystems Engineering
Research Center at the University of Michigan in the development of advanced
Cochlear Prosthesis technologies. A staff member from Sandia's Integrated
Microsystems Department is on-site in Ann Arbor to oversee the integration of a
demonstration testbed using these new technologies.
