Cyber attacks can not only quickly harm data and computing networks, but also damage computer-controlled critical infrastructure, such as electric power, telecommunications, water supply, air traffic, and first-responder communications.

Given the complex interconnections between infrastructure components, an attack on a single sector could lead to cascading failures, with potentially devastating consequences.
