Sandia provides technology evaluation and technical support for several border centers and initiatives:
Sandia is testing and integrating intrusion detection and assessment equipment for deployment along the U.S./Mexico border using its Outdoor Test Facility (OTF), an integration and test site for sensors, communication links, display technologies, and assessment methods for border monitoring applications.
Sandia and New Mexico State University have established a sensor testbed. At this center , researchers evaluate, test, and integrate commercial sensor systems, train operators, and deploy state-of-the-art technologies at the Santa Theresa Point of Entry in New Mexico.
At this San Diego center, Sandia works with the National Institutes of Justice to provide technical assistance to federal, state, and local agencies with border security responsibilities. Specific activities include strengthening technology capabilities and applying an intelligent, secure, collaborative tracking system to cargo movement.
