Decision Analysis

Sandia’s modeling capabilities are used to develop interactive simulations that support decision analysis and policy development. 

The simulations support performance and trade-off studies, such as understanding how to use limited resources most effectively and characterizing technology and system performance. To date, the capability has been used to evaluate defensive architectures and response plans and to train responsible individuals.

The capability draws on Sandia’s expertise in:

• Deposition and dispersal of biological and chemical agents.
• Human behavior modeling—for example, how people might seek treatment after exposure.
• Chemical and biological detectors.
• Vulnerability and risk analysis.

One key application has been developed:

• The Biological Defense Application supports trade-off studies and regional training around biological agent releases.
