Preparing a defense against biological weapons is tricky because there are a myriad of biological agents, each representing a separate threat and set of challenges for finding countermeasures. Sandia scientists are developing a methodology that will assess the risk posed by various biological threat agents to the United States.
This risk assessment methodology will enable researchers to identify which biological threat agents pose the greatest risk to the United States, thus determining the focus of biodefense research. The development of this methodology is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center.
