BioNet
Using an integrated approach, Sandia’s BioNet program is designed to help cities understand and respond to biological attacks. Specifically, BioNet is tackling the problem of helping cities manage a bioterror attack by integrating civilian and military capabilities.
Focusing on San Diego as the pilot location, BioNet is creating:
- A system to help local authorities detect and understand the nature of a bio-event.
- Tools to help civilians and military staff communicate better so they can provide a fast, effective response.
- Higher-performing and lower-cost technologies and methods for analyzing samples.
- Guidelines for managing the consequences of an attack.
BioNet typifies the best of Sandia projects in many respects:
- It seeks solutions that are broader than any single technology, system, or tool.
- It draws on Sandia’s demonstrated expertise in multiple areas, from simulating complex events to seamlessly inserting new technologies into existing systems.
- It leverages the investment of individual sponsors.
