Hardening Critical National Facilities
Sandia has helped the Department of Energy harden the defense of key facilities against chemical attack through a number of activities:
- To better understand the actual threat to these facilities, Sandia examined the chemical weapons that might be used, explored the viability of various dispersal techniques through modeling and experiments, and examined targets from the standpoint of an adversary.
- Our Chemical Defense Assessment Team assessed the vulnerability of specific sites using our well-established processes.
- We developed generic and site-specific defenses, including systems to prevent a release, passive defense systems, and response systems.
We have provided similar support to Department of Treasury facilities.
