COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

The Computational Materials Science & Engineering Department develops atomic, molecular, and mesoscale materials models. We implement them into numerical simulations to predict structural evolution during processing and service and to evaluate properties and performance based on materials microstructure. We work with experimentalists to develop advanced materials for Sandia’s technological needs and to maintain US competitiveness in materials technology. Customers include the DOE Defense Program Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) and the DOE Office of Basic Energy Sciences.
