MINUTES
- Report from HTD Executive Committee (Larry Witte)
- Funding for HT Memorial Award û There are enough funds for two per year, working on plan to raise additional $25K for third.
- Pursuing revitalization of summer meeting (NHTC, IHTC, Heat Transfer/Thermophysics), have opened discussion with Fluids Divisionùnot just co-locating but having single conference, single title.
- New members should attend Session Workshop.
- Check your address on the roster of members, since many of the e-mail addresses are not accurate.
- Publications are in bound volumes at this conference (not on CD-ROM as at NHTC). We are trying to pursue getting CD-ROM at IMECE, although eventually we should have everything on Web.
- We are trying to learn how conference budgets are made û members have the feeling they donÆt get much for registration fee.
- Web submission of abstracts was organized by HTD, ASME should have done but hasnÆt. It is much more efficient and attracts more abstracts. Got 100 more abstracts at this conference than at last IMECE and significantly more papers too.
- Report from the Chair (Adrienne Lavine) : Nothing to report
- Report on current IMECE sessions (by Majid Charmchi): There were plenty of abstracts, plenty of papers of high quality. We had 7 sessions, 3 didnÆt get enough abstracts, some combined into general session.
- Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing and Manufacturing (Charmchi/Gibson/Xu) (3 sessions)
- Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer in Manufacturing and Materials Processing (Khan/Andrews) Sunday, not very good attendance. (joint with Fluids)
- Transport Phenomena in Composite Materials Processing (Pitchumani) (9 papers, 1 went to generic session)
- Transport Phenomena in Spray and Coating Processing (Jog/Bergman) (6 papers)
- Artificial Neural Networks for Thermal Systems and Materials Processing and Manufacturing (Mahajan/Yang) - 2 sessions with good papers.
- Planning for 2001 NHTC (KCR Steve Lee): Jon Longtin reporting for Ted Bergman û Dates June 10-12, 2001, co-located with AIAA with two overlap days. Registrants at one conference may attend other. Proceedings of NHTC will be on CD-ROM, distributed to only NHTC registrants.
- Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing and Manufacturing (Jen/Khan)- 7 abstracts
- Mesoscopic Heat Transfer and Control of Thermal Processing (Received 2 abstracts, merged into another)
- Laser and Plasma Processing (perhaps joint with K-20) (Xu, Chiu, and Shiu) received 5 abstracts.
- Transport Phenomena in Non-Traditional Materials Processing and Manufacturing (Chan) received 2 abstracts, merged into another session.
- Transport Phenomena in Processing for Nano- Systems and Materials (Kurabayashi/Asheghi) panel
OUTCOME û 3 sessions: Laser and Plasma Processing û 6 papers; Generic û 14 papers (two sessions); Nano Syatems and Materialsû panel
Discussion of panel û difficult to get participants to show up and pay registration fee. However, since division now gets back money based on number of attendees: we should ask for some of this money for panelists and invited speakers.
Discussion on abstracts: There are fewer abstracts than usual ûMaybe because NHTC is intrinsically less appropriate for our committee because of our interdisciplinary focus.
- Planning for 2001 IMECE (KCR Milind Jog)
- Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing and Manufacturing (Chandra/Alam)
- Joint symposium û Nontraditional Manufacturing Research and Applications (MED/HTD) (Smith/Khan)
- Transport Phenomena in Processing for Nano- Systems and Materials û panel or invited papers (organized by Prasad and Wang)
- Transport Phenomena in Polymer and Composite Processing (Pitchumani/Scott Holmes)
- Transport Phenomena in Novel Spray and Coating Processing (Chiu/Longtin)
- Planning for 2002 NHTC û There is no 2002 NHTC, itÆs IHTC.
- New business
Meeting adjourned.
