Miniature Low Power - High Pressure Valve

Sandia's Intelligent Systems and Robotics Center has developed a new type of miniature high-pressure electrically operated valve. With a volume as small as 0.2 cubic inches, it controls higher pressure (1000 psi) than any commercial valve of its size. The valve has only Teflon and stainless-steel wetted surfaces and operates in 50 milliseconds requiring only 0.5 watts. The design is relatively simple, requiring no precision machining or complex geometries. This
technology is available for licensing.

Characteristics:

  • Two Way and Manifold Mounted valves currently developed
  • Operates with pressures up to 800 PSI
  • 6VDC – 9 VDC using 30-200 mA current per cycle
  • Orifice size 100 to 1000 microns
  • Body size less than 8 cubic centimeters (.5 in3)

Benefits:

  • No such commercial valve currently exists
  • Fast response (50 ms)
  • Small Size
  • Low power requirements (30-200 mA)
  • Teflon seals and stainless steel construction for use with corrosive or non-corrosive liquid and gas mediums

Applications:

  • Portable air and gas chemlab analysis systems
  • Fuel metering
  • Ink jet printers
  • Pneumatic / Hydraulic actuators
  • Medical instruments
  • Compatible with OEM miniature products
