Organotrialkoxysilanes: Sol-Gel Chemistry

The sol-gel chemistry of organotrialkoxysilanes, RSi(OR’)3, is investigated using solution 29Si NMR spectroscopy to follow the hydrolysis and condensation reactions. 13C NMR is used to following reactions of the organic substituent. Polyhedral oligosilsesquioxanes are isolated as crystals and characterized by x-ray diffraction.
