The ESS Program collaborates with industry, government, and academia to produce cutting edge storage technologies. Through its partnerships with these institutions, the ESS Program has contributed to significant, technological advances in the field of energy storage, especially as it relates to electricity grid issues.

ESS is heavily involved in the development and evaluation of integrated electrical energy storage systems; the development and testing of advanced energy storage system components; and analysis and comparison of storage technology and application requirements.

Technologies related to electricity storage in all its various forms and the devices that control energy flow are at the heart of ESS efforts in support of U.S. energy requirements.
