Supervisor/Manager (Explosive Operations)
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
Supervisors and Managers of Explosives Operations shall:
- Oversee explosives operations or manage staff who perform contact operations
(operations involving direct contact with energetic material or energetic
devices) with explosives or devices containing explosives.
Supervisor/Manager (Support Operations)
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
Supervisors and Managers of Support Operations shall:
- Manage staff working in the vicinity of explosives or explosive devices,
but do not perform contact operations with explosives. Duties may include
mechanical/electrical design, work with preassembled "safed assemblies," photography,
telemetry, inspection, and other technical support functions.
Site Safety Officer
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for a Site Safety Officer may include:
- Ensure daily operation safety, access control, site safety briefings,
personnel head counts, risk mitigation, and hazard information.
Explosive Operator
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for an Explosive Operator may include:
- Lead/assist in test/experiment analysis/evaluation and test/experiment
design and set-up when that work involves contact operations including arming
and firing, formulating, weighing, pressing, heating, handling powders, etc.
- May perform other duties as determined by organization management.
Explosives Assembler
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for an Explosive Assembler may include:
- Installing explosive components and devices, electrical continuity checks,
bridgewire resistance, cabling interconnection, and verification in preparation
for arming or for reliability purposes.
- May perform other duties as determined by organization management.
Explosive Handler
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for an Explosive Handler may include:
- Handling duties may include shipping, receiving, transporting, packaging,
labeling, inventorying of explosives and explosives components/devices.
Explosive Designer
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for an Explosive Designer may include:
- Work in the vicinity of operations involving explosives, explosive devices,
mechanical/electrical design and work on preassembled “safe” assemblies,
but does not perform contact operations with explosives or explosive devices.
- Performs duties in accordance with facility and project procedures.
Safety Engineer
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in Chapter V,
duties for a Safety Engineer may include:
- Consulting on explosives operations, inspections, approvals, and providing
input as appropriate as a member of Safety Engineering.
Support/Casual/Visitor
Unless properly trained in accordance with requirements outlined in Chapter
V, Support/Casual/Visitors:
- May not perform any contact operations with explosives, explosives components
or devices.
- Support/Casual/Visitors may work in the vicinity of tests involving explosives
or explosive devices such as photography, telemetry, inspection, security,
custodial, maintenance, observer, audit, and other technical support functions
in support of explosives operations.
