Applicability, Exceptions, and Consequences

This procedure applies to all Members of the Workforce who are involved in all operations that use cryogenic fluids in either open or closed handling operations.

Procedure Overview

This procedure describes requirements for working safely with cryogenic fluids in either open or closed handling operations. Although this procedure addresses cryogenic safety issues in general, it primarily focuses on, and gives specific examples of, the inert cryogenic fluids of liquid nitrogen, liquid helium, or liquid argon. Liquid nitrogen is the most frequent cryogenic application at SNL.
