Purpose:
  • To provide standards and specifications for building and site systems for the ease of maintenance and establishing consistent equipment to lower life-cycle costs.

 

Objectives:
  • Provide design manuals, construction specifications, and standard construction drawings.
  • Comply with applicable DOE Orders, applicable building codes, and associated regulations.
  • Provide standard documents that promote green building practices that allign with the credits defined by the LEED rating system.
  • Move toward industry standards that lower life cycle and initial costs.
  • Apply industry "Highly Protected Risk" (HPR) standards.
  • Clearly define the desired level of quality and performance required for design, construction, and operations of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Continuously improve the standards by addressing life safety, life-cycle cost, green building, energy efficiency, and security.
 
Sandia National Laboratories has adopted the following Codes:
  • 2009 International Building Code
  • 2009 International Plumbing Code
  • 2009 International Mechanical Code
  • 2009 International Fire Code
  • 2009 International Energy Conservation Code
  • 2009 International Existing Building Code
  • NFPA 70: 2008 National Electrical Code
