[Sandia National Laboratories]

Navigation Patrick V. Brady

Vita Patrick V. Brady graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1984 with a BS in Geology, and received his MS and Ph. D. degrees from Northwestern University in 1987 and 1989 with a study of silicate mineral surface chemistry and kinetics. He spent 1990 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Water Resources and Water Pollution Control (ETH-EAWAG) examining the link between weathering and global climate. He spent two years as an assistant professor in the Geology Department of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas (1991-1993) prior to joining the Geochemistry Department at Sandia National Laboratories. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Engineering at New Mexico Technical Institute where he lectures on environmental subjects. His research interests are natural attenuation of soil contaminants, mineral surface chemistry, geochemical kinetics, water treatment, and global climate change.

He has edited one book on mineral surface chemistry, and written another on natural attenuation of soil contaminants. He was the technical lead for the Sandia Natural Attenuation Project, helped develop DOE site-wide guidelines for implementation of monitored natural attenuation, and reviews DOE site cleanups. He presently works for the waste package operations office of the Yucca Mtn. Project. He has served as guest editor for Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta and the Journal of Soil Contamination, is on the editorial board of Chemical Geology, the program committee of the Geochemical Society, the advisory board of the Association for the Environmental Health of Soils, and reviews papers and proposals for multiple organizations and agencies.
