Scalable System Software for Next Generation Clusters

Sandia's software development is directed towards Science Appliance platforms. Science Appliance systems feature the advanced cluster environment provided by BProc, LinuxBIOS, and open source software. The Beowulf Distributed Process Space (BProc) provides a single system image and process migration facilities for Linux clusters. LinuxBIOS frees the hardware from the normal buggy BIOSes, and provides a common boot environment independent of the hardware architecture, while reducing boottimes from minutes to seconds. We've developed the first InfiniBand Science Appliance based on the open-source InfiniBand software stack and the LANL Clustermatic Linux distribution.
