Teachers are chosen from nomination forms from their principals or department heads. Some of the lists of accomplishments should include: what are the teacher's superior teaching skills and ability to inspire learning in math. Being involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that support math and motivating students to exceed their own expectations.
Sandia National Laboratories/Lockheed Martin can select up to ten teachers, which can be a combination of elementary, middle and high schools teachers. The top teacher is awarded $500 plus an additional $500 to the school's math or science department. The schools are notified in January and every April the schools are contacted of the winning teacher!
