The Excellence in Science Teaching (ESTe) awards recognizes top science teachers in the elementary, middle and high schools throughout Albuquerque Public Schools. The letter to the schools requesting nominations goes out in February and winning science teachers are announced in late April or early May.

Sandia has recognized over 40 outstanding science teachers in New Mexico since the origination of the ESTe Awards.

The top teachers are recognized at an evening banquet and are awarded $500. Up to ten teachers are chosen every other year for their superior teaching skills and ability to inspire learning in science.
