Strengthening Quality in Schools (SQS), a Sandia-led partnership, teaches Baldrige-based concepts to educators. SQS sites continue to gain measurable results in student achievement and overall school performance. Good things are happening all over New Mexico.

Students sharing their goals. The mission of SQS is to accelerate improvement of student achievement in New Mexico using Baldrige Criteria and Quality Concepts.
  • Using Baldrige Criteria, Mesilla Park Elementary School, Las Cruces, increased the percentage of the 4th graders scoring in the competent range on the New mexico Writing Assessment, from 18% in 2001 to 96% in 2004.
  • Shiprock High shifted the average reading level of the entire student body from grade 4.5 to grade 8.5.
  • Mesa Elementary School Consolidated School District and Albuquerque's Armijio Elementary School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the first time in six years. They are no longer probationary schools due to their involvement in SQS.
