Purpose:
The fourth biennial workshop on CHEMKIN® in Combustion
will be an interactive forum designed to share experiences
in using CHEMKIN in teaching programs, to discuss
burgeoning mechanism-database activities, and to
establish an ongoing CHEMKIN user-group meeting.
In past CHEMKIN workshops, the academic community has expressed strong interest in a forum for exchanging example problems that involve using CHEMKIN as a tool in teaching combustion and related topics. In this workshop, we will highlight teaching with CHEMKIN by inviting professors to share specific examples and student exercises in which CHEMKIN was useful in demonstrating concepts in the classroom. This will include extensive discussion of what works, difficulties encountered, and improvements that could make teaching with CHEMKIN more effective.
We will observe a number of projects underway worldwide that target the creation of general-purpose reaction-mechanism databases. The National Institute of Standards and Technology in particular has held several workshops on the subject and is coordinating with academic and research communities to develop a comprehensive public resource. To support and aid in these activities, the workshop will include a session focused on the needs of CHEMKIN users in accessing such databases. The purpose of these discussions is to organize the CHEMKIN-user perspective and establish the foundation for an ongoing CHEMKIN user-group meeting.
As much has happened since the last workshop in 2002, Reaction Design will also share with the community the latest CHEMKIN developments and plans.
The fourth biennial CHEMKIN Workshop will be held July 25 in Chicago, immediately prior to the start of the 30th International Symposium on Combustion.
