The RISE program is a talent pipeline for both IT and R&D Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Cyber Security professionals who are interested in developing a wide range of technologies that will enhance, protect, or transform Sandia’s mission and enterprise. RISE provides an embedded team experience allowing members to collaborate with other top technical students in the country while paving a path to join Sandia National Laboratories.

RISE actively recruits undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, CIS, and other relevant disciplines. Designed for students interested in Cyber Security, Mission Computing, Enterprise application design and Information Technology, RISE provides students a broad exposure to Sandia projects and culture and a network of other top university students.

RISE interns are part of a Sandia program, Technical Internships to Advance National Security (TITANS), which offers students valuable cross-exposure to projects in other TITANS tracks.

Past Projects:

Enterprise Architecture
The objective of this project was to provide a comprehensive work ow for deploying API’s on Sandia’s Internal Network. It provided constructs for security, high availability and scalability at little cost to development teams. Additionally, it provided automated testing and reduced time to market for enterprise solutions.

HoloLens Augmented Reality Visualization Experience
The objective of this project was to assess the applicability of Augmented Reality to safety and training for Sandia products using Microsoft HoloLens. The team created an application that models the disassembly of a mock product and indicated the safety hazards for each step.

Offline Expense Reporting Mobile Application
The object of this project was to develop a native application that is available on Android and iOS that would allow users to capture expense report information of ine. The team created an application that allowed users to create a limited report that could later be merged with an existing report in the web version of Expense Report Plus.

The objective of this research was to provide measurable, quantitative analysis (using Emulytics technology):
  • Provide visibility (protect, detect, respond, and incident response) on non-Windows platforms (Linux, OSX);

  • Realize the feasibility of reducing the cyber agents on SNL end points to improve user experience

Cloud Computing Security
The purpose of this study was to provide guidance to the cloud computing architecture team and relevant key decision makers regarding the visibility implications of various cloud computing models. Key considerations include monitoring data acquisition and visibility.

Relevant Research Questions:
  • What types of data (network, log, end point, application, etc.), frequency, staleness, and
    completeness are available such that visibility and traceability can be attained when migrating and operating services and applications in the cloud?

  • What are the gaps, what will we lose, what will we gain by moving to the shared security model?

Application proceedure:
