Sandia National Laboratories' employs chemistry professionals that conduct research and development at the interface between biology, synthetic chemistry, and surface science to deliver prototype solutions in diverse applications.
As a Chemical Engineer, you will have a wide variety of positions open to you. Chemical Engineers are involved in analytic topics that span the entire process from nuclear fuel cycle processes to nuclear weaponization and delivery system functionality.
Inherent in understanding these topics is understanding the science and technology underpinning the nuclear fuel cycle, weapons development, weaponization, and delivery system functionality. Furthermore, chemistry is fundamental to understanding the signatures of the processes and materials. Consequently, chemistry is one of the fundamental sciences that underpins much of the weapons and proliferation analysis program.
Computer scientists and computer engineers at Sandia work on a variety of projects that range from research to full life-cycle product development and support. You will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas such as computer and network security, collaborative technologies, computational science and mathematics, visualization and scientific computing, and advanced software research and development.
Team members work on projects tailored to their experience and interests, including systems engineering, design, and development. Build first-of-a-kind information systems for compelling national security missions, including remote sensing, satellite communications, distributed computing, and real-time applications. Provide innovative designs and solutions for problems previously thought impossible. Develop software for multimillion-dollar, multiyear R&D satellite ground systems. Employ cutting-edge technology to produce critical national security systems.

As a Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute technically and programmatically in the development of our many breakthrough products. Because Systems Engineers have responsibilities across the entire product life cycle, you may contribute to every aspect that impacts how a product is conceived, developed and deployed into the field.
Systems Engineers may work with business development to help with the conceptual design of new product offerings. This may entail developing concept architectures of the system, evaluating if Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products already exist or if new products will have to be developed and conducting cost-benefit analyses of different candidate configurations. During proposal development, you may help refine this concept into a solution that addresses specific customer requests.
After contract award, you may use software tools to assist in understanding all customer expectations and establishing a system to assign responsibility for particular team members. During the development phase of the product, you could help resolve and manage risks as they are identified. You may also be involved with ensuring the integrity of program configuration baselines and how these obligations are verified.
