Archimedes Project Mission
Modern products have more parts, of different types, designed faster by
different designers, packed in a smaller volume, all at lower cost and with
less time-to-market than ever before. They also have to be assembled,
serviced, and even disassembled for disposal. We are developing computer
capabilities to help plan and reason about these assembly and disassembly
processes. With the aid of these systems, engineers can more easily
- ensure assemblability and serviceability of their designs,
- reduce time-to-market by automatically producing valid production plans,
- get fast design-for-assembly feedback to decrease the cost and increase
the quality of their products,
- visualize, communicate, and document assembly processes for their
products, and
- increase the recyclability and decrease disposal costs of products at
the end of their useful lives.
