As of 2004, Sandia/New Mexico personnel occupy a total of approximately 4.66 million gross square feet (GSF) of buildings. This total excludes storage facilities, leased buildings, and non-water using structures (e.g. storage containers, substations). These buildings are a wide mixture of small and large office buildings, laboratory facilities, and manufacturing facilities.

Buildings account for 42% of the water consumed at Sandia. The water consuming entities are: Cooling-Towers and Domestic Use .
