COMMUNITY GIVING

Construction

Sandia National Laboratories and its employees actively support the community. Sandia volunteers and other contribution programs provide the opportunity for employees, retirees, and family members to help improve the quality of life for others. Sandia has more than 1,000 registered volunteers, whose time and money are given generously in many ways.

Corporate Contributions

Lockheed Martin became the operating contractor of Sandia National Laboratories in 1993 and has contributed more than $22 million to nonprofit organizations benefiting our communities in Albuquerque and Carlsbad, NM, and Livermore, CA. All requests for funding must be submitted electronically at the Lockheed Martin Corporation Philanthropy website. Additional information about contributions can be found in the Lockheed Martin/Sandia National Laboratories Corporate Contributions Guide (39K PDF).

Results Tell the Story

Sandia employees, retirees, and contractors average 120,000 volunteer hours each year. About 300 employees receive the President's Volunteer Service Award for serving more than 100 volunteer hours in a year. Volunteer projects include participation in 17 Make a Difference Days, donating blood, and sewing blankets for Project Linus.

Sandia volunteers are building their 12th Habitat for Humanity house. Employees on an annual basis generously donate thousands of books, more than 23,000 school supply items, 63,000 lbs. of food to Roadrunner Food Bank, and 500 holiday gifts to New Mexico Children Youth and Families department.

And the Giving Continues

Sandia employees and retirees contribute more than $4 million to the United Way of Central New Mexico through the annual Employee Caring Program campaign. More than 77 percent of our employees participate.

The Shoes for Kids Program is supported completely by Sandian's donations and provides a new pair of shoes to about 500 local elementary school children each year. Our employees enjoy contributing to this holiday program created here at Sandia, and it is more than 50 years old.
