
Sandia National Laboratories and its employees actively support the community. Sandia volunteers and other contribution programs provide the opportunity for employees, retirees, and family members to help improve the quality of life for others. Sandia has more than 1,000 registered volunteers. Last year, Sandia volunteers reported some 122,000 hours of helping others. Time and money are given generously in many ways.
Lockheed Martin on behalf Sandia National Laboratories is committed to a program of philanthropy that supports strategic business goals and invests in the quality of life in the commuities where our employees work and live. More than $19.5 million has been donated since 1993. All requests for funding must be submitted electronically at the Lockheed Martin Corporation Philanthropy website. Sandia employees, retirees, and contractors logged more than 123,000 volunteer hours in 2009. Volunteer activities have included participation in 16 Make a Difference Day projects, donating blood, and sewing blankets for Project Linus.
Sandia volunteers are building their 10th Habitat for Humanity house. Employees on an annual basis generously donate thousands of books, over 23,000 school supply items, 63,000 lbs. of food to Roadrunner Food Bank, and 500 holiday gifts to New Mexico Children Youth and Families department.
Sandia employees and retirees contribute more than $4 million to the United Way of Central New Mexico through the annual Employee Caring Program (ECP) campaign. More than 77 percent of our employees participate.
The Shoes for Kids Program is supported completely by Sandian's donations and provides a new pair of shoes to about 500 local elementary school children each year. Our employees enjoy contributing to this holiday program created here at Sandia, and it is over 50 years old.
