Sandia is nationally recognized for its applications of geoscience and geotechnology to solving national defense and national security problems. The core mission of Sandia National Laboratories is the design and surety of our nation's enduring nuclear weapons stockpile for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). SNL also has substantive mission space in national security applications for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the intelligence community. Background and Scope This business area focuses on geo - science and technology (S&T) of a national security nature that supports our nation's nuclear weapons complex, and our military and intelligence services. It includes most 6100 efforts sponsored by the DoD, NNSA, and national intelligence agencies as well as aspects of domestic "homeland security" that involve similar technology applications. Center 6100 does not perform the systems integration for weapons applications and thus, in most cases, does not have primary responsibility for the external customer interface. Rather, our funding generally comes through a Sandia program manager in another Division and our work requires extensive partnering with other organizations.
