Case for Giving
If you’ve been wondering how you can reach out and help others in need, the SHARE Program may be just what you’ve been looking for. Sandia’s corporate giving program is called Sandia Helps and Reaches Everyone, or SHARE, to emphasize that our gifts touch everyone in our communities. SHARE is designed to help Sandians make a difference in the lives of others by making it easy for each of us to contribute to charitable agencies that serve the communities where we live, both in the greater Bay Area and the San Joaquin Valley.
The dismal economy has heightened the needs in our communities. Especially in the current economic conditions, many people in our communities need support and assistance. Some lack food, clothing, or shelter, while others draw upon local nonprofit organizations for essential services, such as health care, childcare, job training, counseling, domestic-violence hotlines, and many more. From assisting the poor and disabled to helping those who find themselves in personal or family crises, our local nonprofits are doing their part to support individuals and families in our communities. Now it’s time to do our part by sharing our resources.
Even a few dollars can produce big blessings for the needy. For example, $1 donated per pay period over one year ($26/year) can provide immunization shots for 26 uninsured children, two hours of substance abuse treatment, four bags of food for a family in a shelter, or one day of mental-health counseling. Ultimately, our gifts support individual people in need.
Our collective giving has an extraordinary impact. Last year over 70% of site employees participated, contributing more than $230,000 to local communities through workplace contributions. These funds were distributed to approximately 150 agencies directly supporting individuals in the communities in which Sandia employees live. Our goal this year is to increase participation and make an even greater impact on our communities through our collective giving.
We encourage you to consider giving to your community through SHARE. All of us at Sandia have much to be thankful for, and those who are less fortunate could truly benefit if we are willing to share our resources.
Please don’t hesitate because you think your contribution will be too small. Every contribution counts and will greatly impact those who are truly in need. We ask current SHARE participants to continue your gifts, and for those who chose not to participate last year, won’t you please join with us now?
Your center or department representative will be providing you with more information about SHARE and is available to answer any questions that you may have.

Participating in SHARE is easy.

  • Sandia staff: Go to Make Contribution - to set up your automated payroll deduction and distribution to the charities of your choice.  If you donated last year and wish to donate the same amount and have the same distribution this year, you may do so with the click of one easy-to-find button in the application.  If you do not wish to use this web-based application, you may use the 2010 SHARE Pledge Form.
  • Contractors: Employees that do not receive their pay directly from Sandia must use the 2010 SHARE Pledge Form to donate. Go to 2010 SHARE Pledge Form to print out the form, or ask your department or center representative for a copy. Fill it out and follow the directions on the form for submitting it.

For more information about many of the charities that are currently part of SHARE, go to the Agencies listing. If the charity you wish to support is not currently part of the program, you can simply add it to the list yourself in either the web-based application or on the paper pledge form.
