A publication of the Advanced Simulation & Computing Division, NA-121.2, NNSA Defense Programs September 2008NA-ASC-500-08—Issue 8 Roadrunner Supercomputer Installed at Los AlamosThe first Roadrunner Phase 3 Connected Unit (CU) was delivered to Los Alamos on July 15, 2008. Shortly after delivery, IBM successfully kicked off a Linpack burn-in run on the first CU in the Metropolis Center for Modeling and Simulation. Los Alamos will begin acceptance testing this month. In January 2009, the file systems will be connected and scientists will begin system and code stabilization using weapons and open-science code runs. This installation is very exciting because of the potential for advancing science and engineering toward predictive capabilities for the ASC stockpile stewardship mission and other national needs.
