Department of Energy Centers of Excellence

The Metal Hydride Center of Excellence is one of three "Centers of Excellence" created in April 2004 by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to support President Bush's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative. Supported by DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the centers leverage the expertise of the DOE national laboratories in partnership with academia and industry.

Each Center of Excellence will conduct collaborative research to address the major technical barrier to onboard hydrogen storage–storing enough hydrogen to enable a greater than 300-mile driving range without impacting cargo or passenger space.
