Labs Accomplishments 1999

[Bomb disablers]
DISARMING PERSONALITIES -- Sandia bomb dismantlement experts Chris Cherry (right) and Rod Owenby were recognized publicly by President Clinton in February 1998 for their role in resolving the notorious Unabomber case. Chris and Rod were summoned by the FBI to Theodore Kaczynski's Montana cabin to disarm a small bomb without destroying it, thus preserving vital evidence that helped send Kaczynski to prison for life. Here, Rod and Chris practice using PAN disrupters to "disarm" a dummy bomb. Click here to see the Labs Accomplishments entry recognizing Chris and Rod. (Photo by Randy Montoya)
