Department 1676 - Accelerator System Operations Department was certified to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 in May 2005. Contact Guy Donovan.


NWSBU Policy & Processes. The NWSBU is responsible for all aspects of work under NNSA programs. The NWSBU Policy, which functions as our Quality Management System, is structured around ISO 9000 as a business model to facilitate integration of Processes across all facets of programs in the NWSBU. Materials Processing Coatings Laboratory (MPCL), is the first Sandia design group to receive an ISO 9001:2000 registration. The MPCL team opted to adopt the ISO 9000 standard because of the laboratory's rapid growth in recent years and the fact the ISO 9000 standard is recognized and valued world-wide. In August 2001 the largest ISO registrar in North America awarded a certificate of registration for ISO 9001:2000 to the MPCL. Contact: John McKenney



Department 1671 Target Fabrication was certified to ISO 9001:2000 in January 2003. Contact Johann Seamen

The Manufacturing Enterprise Department (2433) were certified to ISO 9002 in May 2000. They successfully completed their annual recertification in May 2001. Contact Paul McKey.

The Electronic Fabrication Dept. 2434 is one of 2 other organizations in Center 2400 that have successfully achieved ISO9001 certification. Electronic Fabrication quality policy is "Identify and meet customer requirements for the design to application of customized products, through the use of effective and efficient processes". The Manufacturing Science and Technology Center 2400 is utilizing the experience gained from the departments success to obtain ISO9001 certification. As a Service Center, the Manufacturing Science and Technology Center's provides "Excellence in the Customers Interest"


Primary Standards Lab, are accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) as meeting the criteria which encompass the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 (1999), ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994, and the relevant requirements of ISO 9002 as suppliers of calibration. Their Scope of Accreditation is available. Contact either Tom Wunsch or Larry Azevedo.


Organization 4330, Cyber Infrastructure Development and Deployment, has as its mission to provide reliable, available, and cost-effective telephone and networking services for the Laboratories. To be able to service the over 7000 network and telephone moves, adds and changes annually in a consistent, reliable and quality fashion, and to facilitate network design at all levels in support of Sandia's mission, we rely on operational procedures borne out of our ISO-9000 initiative. Department 4334 became the first department within the group to receive certification. Over the next few years, Departments 4335 and 4338 were added, and the final certification audit for all of 4330 was completed in May, 2006

Organization 12341, Quality Engineering Department, participates on the Software Quality Assurance Subcommittee of the Nuclear Weapons Complex (SQAS). Objectives of one Work Item under this subcommittee have been to:
  • Gain understanding of ISO 9000 requirements relating to software
  • Develop awareness of ISO 9000 as a potential business driver
  • Provide information and guidance on software related ISO activities
  • Provide UK/US interface for ISO/Software collaboration/deliverables
  • Develop White Paper addressing ISO Software/SQA related requirements
