Sandia uses a wide range of engineering disciplines to evaluate cask response to severe mechanical and thermal accident environments. Capability sets supporting these engineering disciplines include analyses, testing, and risk assessment. In addition to supporting cask certification and technology development, this program supports the development of materials that can be used in public forums to educate people about the true risks associated with the transport of radioactive and nuclear materials.
