CASoS Engineering

Patrick Finley

Photograph of Pat FinleyPatrick Finley has developed large engineering analysis systems currently used by a variety of Fortune 500 firms and government agencies. At Sandia he designs and codes complex adaptive system models, develops experimental design protocols, integrates High Performance Computing (HPC) resources, and has developed innovative approaches to uncertainty quantification. Mr. Finley has also contributed fundamental sampling design, visualization, and data manipulation algorithms to the Bioterrorism response and recovery effort. Additionally, he has developed techniques for more rigorous analysis of simulation software performance and validation of system performance gains. He leads Sandia’s participation in the long-standing research partnership with the U.S. Veterans Health Administration aimed at applying advanced modeling and simulation methods to large-scale emerging problems in public health and healthcare management.

Patrick serves on the NORTHCOM/NORAD National Operational Epidemiological Modeling Working Group, working with the CDC, VA, DHS, DTRA, NORTHCOM, USDA, USPHA, and HHS/ASPR to develop a coherent national strategy for applying modeling and analysis to combat catastrophic infectious disease outbreaks. He is the designated official NATO Subject Matter Expert for complex model design and analysis. Patrick is also an invited member of the National Operational Epidemiological Modeling Process Working Group (CDC, DoD). In addition, Patrick was awarded US Patent 7646473 in 2010 for a creative hardware/software solution for first responders and bioterrorism remediation workers.
