Applications: Enterprise Security
Corporations face an unending stream of shocks both exogenously from the external environment and endogenously from interactions among subsystems and groups. Confronted with these perturbations, decisions are made at scales from the individual, the task group, the department, all the way up to the scale of the corporation: these decisions influence global corporate health (as defined by the ability of the corporation to excel within its environment). The implementation of policy or rules or the creations of new initiatives can influence the corporation’s health in unexpected ways, both in the short- or long-term. Do they achieve what they were designed to achieve? Do they create unintended consequences (good, bad)? Do they increase the health of the organization and thus its ability to excel?
