The Sampling and Analysis Subcommittee is dedicated to researching and addressing the
issues associated with sampling and analysis of beryllium particulates. The
subcommittee is comprised primarily of Industrial Hygienists and Lab Analysts who
focus on understanding and establishing state of the art standard methods for monitoring,
sampling, and analyzing samples for beryllium for the primary purpose of improving
exposure monitoring. The subcommittee is divided into six working groups that
specialize in various aspects of sampling and analysis. These working groups include:

  • Accreditation Working Group -- dedicated to identifying and addressing the
    issues related to accreditation of analytical labs analyzing for beryllium;
  • BeO Digestion Working Group -- dedicated to working issues associated with the
    digestion of BeO and establishing robust digestion methods for all compounds of
    beryllium;
  • Fluorescence Methods Working Group -- dedicated to working issues and the
    validation of methods for new fluorescence technologies;
  • Sampling Working Group -- dedicated to reviewing and establishing effective
    methods for sampling for beryllium particulates;
  • Standard Working Group -- dedicated to getting methods developed for beryllium
    analysis submitted and approved by appropriate agencies (e.g. ASTM, NIOSH,
    etc.);
  • Validation Working Group -- dedicated to establishing science based methods of
    validation for new analysis techniques.
