The Teraflop system is not the first parallel supercomputing
system in existence. The Intel Paragon was in existence before the Teraflop,
and is a parallel processing system.
The N-cube preceded the Intel Paragon and is also a parallel
processing system.
Both Puma and SUNMOS can be used to operate these two
systems.
The Paragon and the N-cube were two of the many milestones
on the path towards the massively parallel, distributed memory systems
of today. These next generation systems include the Teraflop and the other
two supercomputing systems planned to be installed at Lawrence Livermore
and Los Alamos National Laboratories under the Accelerated Strategic Computing
Initiative (ASCI).
