The Russian federal nuclear center - the All-Russian scientific research institute of technical physics (RFYATS - VNIITF) was created in 1955 in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers OF USSR N 1561-701 of 31 July, 1954, for the creation of a new institute for the development of nuclear weapons. In 1967, it was renamed into the All-Union scientific research institute of instrument manufacture (VNIIP). In 1989 it was again renamed to All-Union NII - Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics. In 1992, the institute received status of Russian federal nuclear center.
The Institute was created for developing of nuclear charges and ammunition, studies of the physical processes of nuclear it exploded and its operations, realizations of the designer's supervision after production and operation of nuclear charges and ammunition, for the fundamental and technological guarantee of all stages of their development and life cycle.
Under the up-to-date conditions there has been a change in the functional tasks of the institute. The value of such tasks as the maintenance of ammunition under the new, more complex conditions of the absence of nuclear tests, the guarantee of its safety and reliability, averting the propagation of nuclear technologies, creation of methods and means of treaty supervision on the nuclear test ban, guarantee of processes of abridging of nuclear weapons and other Voznikla the need of the development of conversion directions. Some of the conversion developments are completed or near completion; however, their introduction meets difficulties.
RFYATS-VNIITF is the most important scientific and technical center of the country, capable of solving the most complex problems and scientific and technical problems in the creation of nuclear weapons, and also in the region of the peaceful use of nuclear energy, in the solution of the most important national-economic and industrial problems of the country. Its high positions are acknowledged in the world.
