Hardware purchases
The history of computer hardware purchases at the NNSA national laboratories from 1982 through 2001 is shown in constant dollars and 2001 dollars. The trend of the 1990s was reversed with the emergence of the ASCI program in 1995. After the test ban, simulations have replaced underground testing, and the need for a sustained simulation effort has become of central importance to the SSP.
